In Beirut, the announcement of the restoration of diplomatic relations within two months between Saudi Arabia and Iran, after six years of rupture, was welcomed by Tehran's allies and ignored by Riyadh's friends.

But all are aware that the improvement of relations between the two countries will necessarily have an impact in Lebanon.

The Hezbollah leader was one of the first to react to the announcement of the upcoming exchange of ambassadors between Tehran and Riyadh.

Hassan Nasrallah said that " 

the return of relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia is a very welcome step, and will work in favor of the peoples of the region

 ".

According to him, “ 

this important development could open up horizons throughout the region, as well as in Lebanon 

”.

The leader of Hezbollah, however, assured that "

 Iran does not interfere in the affairs of its allies and does not dictate their decisions 

".

Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berry, who is the country's most prominent Shia political figure, spoke of a "

historic agreement

" and pleaded for " 

strengthening the common interests of the peoples of the region

 ".

The head of the Free Patriotic Movement, founded by Michel Aoun, the deputy Gébran Bassil, for his part estimated in a

tweet

that the Iranian-Saudi agreement will lead to “

a wave of stability which will encompass Lebanon

”.

However, he assured that the solutions to the country's problems will not come from abroad.

The Lebanese hope that normalization between Riyadh and Tehran will first allow the election of a new President of the Republic.
