Strong reactions after the remarks of an Israeli minister who affirms that Huwara in the north of the West Bank should be razed.

All of the Israeli rioters have been freed by a court.

But two of them, a 17-year-old boy and a young man in his twenties, were placed in administrative detention.

An exceptional measure which causes a stir within the government of Benyamin Netanyahu.

sticking point

in the most extreme Israeli coalition the country has ever known.

Two of the perpetrators of the violent sacking of the Palestinian town of

Huwara

, Sunday, February 26, yet acquitted with six others accused by a court in Jerusalem have been placed in administrative detention.

A decision taken by the Minister of Defense, Yoav Gallant, a close associate of the head of government Netanyahu, for a period of 4 months, on the recommendation of the Shin Bet, the Israeli internal security service.

Controversial procedure

Administrative detention is a controversial procedure inherited from the British Mandate for Palestine which allows suspects to be imprisoned without informing them of the charges and without presenting concrete evidence for their detention.

Nearly a thousand Palestinians are currently behind bars in this procedure, which is rarely used against Jewish suspects.

Netanyahu overwhelmed?

Itamar Ben Gvir, Minister of National Security and leader of the Jewish Force party opposes this measure, which he considers anti-democratic. One more problem for Netanyahu who, in the opinion of many commentators, is largely overwhelmed by the right wing of his coalition.
