The government, aiming for 5 trillion yen in inbound consumption annually, presented a draft of a new basic plan for tourism strategy at an expert meeting held on the 9th.

It is a policy to emphasize the amount of consumption rather than the number of people, such as setting the amount of consumption per foreign visitor to Japan to 200,000 yen, which is 25% higher than before the corona crisis.

The government's expert panel is discussing the revision of the tourism strategy "Tourism Nation Promotion Basic Plan" for the first time in six years, and the government presented a draft of the new plan at the meeting on the 9th.

Among them, the goal of spending per foreign tourist visiting Japan will be raised to 200,000 yen by 2025.

This is about 40,000 yen, or 25% higher than the 2019 results before the corona crisis.

On top of that, as a concrete measure to increase consumption, we will increase the added value of travel, such as extending the length of stay with tours around rural areas, and enhancing tours that make use of Japan's nature and unique local culture. I'm doing it.

On the other hand, the number of foreign tourists visiting Japan is aiming to exceed the record high of 31.88 million in 2019 by 2025.

The current basic plan focuses on increasing the number of foreign visitors to Japan, but it is said that it is difficult to make a reliable forecast because it is easily affected by the infection status of the new corona.

For this reason, by emphasizing the amount of consumption per person rather than the number of people, the aim is to increase the economic effect of inbound demand.

Prime Minister Kishida has indicated a policy to aim for annual inbound consumption of 5 trillion yen, and the government plans to compile a new basic plan within the next month based on discussions at the meeting on the 9th.
