The CEOE employer gives its president,

Antonio Garamendi,

a senior management contract and makes him an employee after having worked as a freelancer during the last four years in which he holds the position, according to official sources confirmed to this newspaper.

This change in their employment relationship, advanced by Digital Economy, means turning Garamendi into a CEOE employee with

a fixed gross salary of 380,000 euros compared to the 350,000 that he had been receiving in his commercial relationship.

The change was decided at the CEOE board of directors on January 25, according to an extract from the minutes to which EL MUNDO has had access.

It states that "since the functions exercised by the Chairman are comparable to those normally performed by the CEOs or Executive Presidents of commercial companies, the proposal is that, based on current legislation, the President in the Social Security regime corresponding to said CEOs or Executive Presidents

, that is to say, the General Social Security Regime applicable to those assimilated to workers by someone else's account

".

Garamendi thus received the "recommendation", according to official sources, to adjust his employment relationship, which they deny that it is a "regularization", considering that the previous one was not illegal or irregular.

The directive has concluded that it is a "more appropriate" relationship to avoid any risk to Social Security.

As for the salary increase, it

implies an increase of 8.5%

, but CEOE sources assure that it includes updates from two previous years pending and it is not the increase of a single exercise.

By 2023 it will rise 3% like the rest of the employers' staff, they say.

According to the aforementioned excerpt, Garamendi's new contract "unlike what happens with the one applicable to ordinary workers, does not include unemployment contributions and the FOGASA (Wage Guarantee Fund

), nor does it generate the right to any compensation to the end of term".

The president of the CEOE budget control commission responsible for addressing these changes is

Alejandra Kindelán

, who in turn chairs the Spanish Banking Association.

The change, scheduled to take effect on February 1, has not yet been formalized, they assure the employer.

Garamendi assumed the presidency of CEOE in November 2018 and opted to obtain full-time remuneration in contrast to his predecessor,

Juan Rosell,

who received no remuneration, but was allowed to hold positions on the boards of large companies.
