A former fighter pilot, he notably participated in Operation Opera in 1981: the bombing of the Iraqi reactor Osirak.

Zeev Raz has become a fierce activist against the government of Binyamin Netanyahu and particularly

against the reform of the judicial system

.

“Din rodef”

On his Facebook account, he claimed that assassinating Netanyahu would be justified if he were to assume dictatorial powers.

He even offered a “din rodef”.

It is according to religious law the rabbinic green light to kill an individual.

Exactly the term used by rabbis on the eve of the assassination of Prime Minister Itshak Rabin in November 1995.

Zeev Raz quickly retracted, saying his

post

had been misinterpreted.

But the police decided to summon him anyway for questioning.

The Israeli Prime Minister denounced the increase in incitement to hatred in recent weeks, particularly against him.

“

Lines are crossed every day

 ,” he said.

Measures

Other ministers are asking for measures against personalities who call for violence.

Opposition leader Yair Lapid, however, replied that when he himself was the target of threats, it did not seem to bother the current majority too much.
