Sino-Singapore Jingwei Statistics The recall announcement published on the official website of the State Administration for Market Regulation found that in January 2023, 8 car companies announced a total of 306,415 vehicles.

Among them, BMW Brilliance recalled the largest number of vehicles, recalling more than 170,000 vehicles, Beijing Auto recalled more than 100,000 vehicles, and Volkswagen recalled more than 20,000 vehicles, ranking second and third in the total number of recalls respectively.

BMW Brilliance recalls more than 100,000 vehicles

According to the recall information published on the official website of the State Administration for Market Regulation, BMW Brilliance has recalled some 5-series vehicles produced in China from September 2, 2019 to December 26, 2020, totaling 171,828 vehicles.

The reason for the recall is that there is a problem with the vehicle software, and the combination instrument may have a black screen and cannot display necessary vehicle information (such as vehicle speed, etc.).

It is worth noting that after BMW Brilliance issued the recall announcement on January 17, many car owners still complained about the recalled models on the car quality website, mostly because of the car-machine system.

Some car owners complained that the pre-purchase publicity does not match the post-purchase experience, that is, the actual car-machine system cannot realize the remote upgrade, remote control, intelligent voice control and other functions written in the car owner's manual.

Regarding the complaints from the above car owners, Sino-Singapore Jingwei called BMW Brilliance Automotive Co., Ltd., but the call was not answered.

Sino-Singapore Jingwei called the BMW customer service hotline again as a consumer, and the other party said that the problem can be upgraded by "updating applications and services", which takes about 15 minutes.

If you still cannot use functions such as remote upgrade, remote control, and intelligent voice control after the update, you can call again and transfer to the relevant department.

In addition, the customer service also said that the problem of the recalled vehicles was that the instrument panel could not display the speed of the vehicle, etc., and the problems complained by the above-mentioned car owners were not within the scope of the recall.

The Saab D50 model produced by BAIC Motor ranked second in the recall list in January with over 100,000 recalls.

The recall announcement shows that starting from February 1, 2023, a total of 107,511 Saab D50 vehicles produced between August 25, 2013 and October 16, 2017 will be recalled.

The reason for the recall is that the drain hole of the front windshield rain gutter may be blocked by foreign objects in some vehicles under harsh operating conditions, causing water to enter the passenger compartment. In extreme cases, the interior of the airbag controller is corroded and the airbag cannot work normally.

Reproduced Takata airbag

Volkswagen's Beetle series models ranked third in the recall list in January with a total recall of over 20,000 vehicles.

The recall announcement shows that Volkswagen will recall some 2015-2016 imported Beetle series cars produced between June 20, 2014 and July 26, 2016 from February 6, 2023, totaling 20,410 vehicles.

It is worth noting that these 20,000 Beetles were recalled because of Takata air bags.

The recall notice shows that the driver's front airbag is equipped with a gas generator produced by Takata. After the vehicle has been used for a long time, if the driver's front airbag is triggered to deploy in a collision accident, the gas generator may be abnormally damaged, resulting in Debris flew out, injuring occupants of the vehicle.

It is reported that since 2013, many car brands, including Toyota, Honda, and BMW, have recalled Takata airbags around the world many times. The cause of the failure is the gas generator in the airbag.

In addition, in January 2023, the most recalled models are Daimler trucks and buses. The recall announcement shows that Daimler trucks and buses have recalled a total of 4 models, and the models involved are Actros 1845, Actros 2642, Actros 2645, and Actros 2651. , A total of 21 vehicles were recalled, and the reason for the recall was that the steering shaft adapter had manufacturing cracks.
