According to him, the European Union went through an extremely acute phase of rising gas prices, but they returned to pre-February levels.

“In a few months, we eliminated the addiction that we had been creating for years,” Borrell said.

He also expressed the opinion that problems in the energy market can no longer be associated with the Ukrainian conflict.

This is a structural problem in the energy sector and, in particular, the relationship between gas and electricity prices, Borrell said.

Earlier, he said that all EU countries, with the possible exception of Hungary, will completely get rid of dependence on Russia's energy resources by the end of the year.

On December 22, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that a ceiling on gas prices would not lead to anything good, just like oil.
