Passenger traffic at Frankfurt Airport recovered a good bit from the slump in the Corona crisis last year.

The airport operator Fraport counted 48.9 million passengers, almost twice as many as in the second pandemic year 2021, as the company listed in the M-Dax announced on Monday in Frankfurt.

Despite the recovery, the 2022 passenger number was still a little more than 30 percent below the record value of almost 70.6 million passengers in 2019. In addition, the number was slightly below the figure of around 50 million that Fraport boss Stefan Schulte recently forecast had asked.

In the cargo business, the airport fell well short of the figures from the second year of Corona.

The volume of freight and airmail fell by around 13 percent to just over two million tons in 2022.
