We need nurses more than ever.

The health crisis has highlighted the importance of this profession and its key role in the field of health.

If you have always been passionate about this profession, which favors people and human relations, or if you wish to retrain, here is how to proceed.

A clear path to health

The good news is that, since 2019, future nursing students no longer need to go through the competition stage to access this training.

Indeed, the latter has been removed in favor of the national Parcoursup platform.

To be able to register, nothing could be simpler: you must be over 17 and hold a baccalaureate or equivalent.

It is up to you to formulate the “nursing training” wish and sub-wishes allowing you to apply for a nursing training institute (IFSI).

If your application is accepted, you will integrate one of these establishments (France has more than 300) for a period of 3 years.

You will follow theoretical courses there of course, but you will also do internships of several weeks, with the aim of obtaining the long-awaited diploma, the key to accessing the nursing profession.

The plurality of exercise

Once you've graduated, it's time to get down to business!

Know that there are several areas in which to practice your profession.

You can first evolve in a hospital, whether private or public, like 85% of French nurses.

For those who would like to specialize in a school, you will also have to pass an entrance examination in order to integrate the National Education and therefore the public service.

For the more adventurous, the army also needs medics!

If you are interested in this course, you can integrate, still after obtaining the baccalaureate, a specific course at the IFSI.

Once the three years have been completed, military, medico-military and medico-operational training will be required to be able to specialize.

Finally, after 3 years of experience in a hospital environment, you can consider setting up your practice, so as to become a liberal nurse.

A choice which obviously requires investment, but which brings its share of advantages (salary, flexible hours, independence, etc.).

OUR “NURSES” FILE

Later, know that it is also possible to go up in rank and to specialize.

Indeed, a nurse can evolve as a health executive (after 4 years of experience), become a trainer or move towards osteopathy, childcare or even anesthesia, to name but a few of the evolutions. possible.

Redirect yourself to help others

Becoming a nurse is not a vocation for everyone.

For some, it was a childhood dream that could not be realized, for others, the desire to provide medical care and to be at the service of the patient came late in life.

It does not matter: whether you are resuming your studies or already hold a diploma in the medical sector, know that you too can join an IFSI.

In continuing vocational training, however, the admission conditions are not quite the same.

You will have to pass selection tests, namely a written test divided into two sub-tests (mathematics and health and social), without forgetting the oral test, which will be in the form of an interview.

You will justify your professional experience of at least 3 years, your professional project and your motivations.

If you are selected at the end of these tests, you have access to the IFSI, also for 3 years!
