The won-dollar exchange rate closed at 1,240 won for the first time in seven months.

In the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won-to-dollar exchange rate closed at 1,243.5 won per dollar, down 25.1 won from the previous trading day's closing price.

It is the first time since June 3 last year (closed price of 1,242.7 won) that the exchange rate closed in the 1,240 won range.

The exchange rate opened at 1,255.0 won, down 13.6 won from the previous trading day, and then expanded the decline to trade at 1,240 won during the day.

The decline from the previous trading day was 25.1 won, the largest since November 11 last year (59.1 won).

The sharp drop in the exchange rate was a result of the dollar weakening as US wage growth slowed.
