The year-on-year inflation rate in the euro area fell in December for the second consecutive month,
to 9.2%
, after 10.1% in November, thanks to the continued slowdown in energy prices, the European energy agency announced on Friday. Eurostat statistics.
Inflation passed the symbolic threshold of 10% for the first time in October, when it reached a record high of 10.6% after a year and a half of uninterrupted rises.
In Spain, a country where inflation began to rise more intensely earlier than in the rest of its European partners, prices have shown more contained increases for a few months.
In December, the leading indicator
marked inflation of 5.8%.
Year-on-year inflation in the Eurozone fell by a score of nine tenths in December, to 9.2%, compared with 10.1%, according to preliminary data published this Friday by Eurostat.
By country,
Spain
continued to be the common currency partner with the lowest inflation, taking into account the harmonized CPI rate that Eurostat uses to make data from eurozone countries comparable.
In December, Spanish inflation at the harmonized rate was 5.6%, followed by that of
Luxembourg
(6.2%).
They are followed by
France
(6.7%),
Malta
(7.3%),
Greece
and
Cyprus
(7.6%) and
Ireland
(8.2%).
Once again ,
energy
was the product category with the highest price increase compared to the same month of the previous year, although the 25.7% increase observed in December is lower than the 34.9% of the previous month and the 42% seen in June, when it experienced the biggest rise.
Processed foods, alcohol and tobacco
also continue to increase their inflation
, with an increase of 13.8% compared to the 13.6% registered in November.
The increase in the price of
unprocessed food
stood at 12.0% compared to 13.8% the previous month.
In the case of
industrial goods
(excluding energy) the increase in prices was 6.4% in December compared to 6.1% in November, and in services inflation rose 4.4%, compared to the 4.2% in November, according to the Efe agency.
Eurostat will publish the complete inflation data for December on January 18.
