The first auction of cherries, which Yamagata Prefecture boasts of being the largest shipment in Japan, was held in Tendo City on the 5th, and it was sold for 1 million yen per 500 grams, which is the highest ever at this market.

About 20 wholesalers and retailers from across the prefecture participated in the first auction at the Tendo fruit and vegetable market.

The high-grade cultivar "Sato Nishiki" was exhibited, and was specially cultivated in an agricultural greenhouse so that farmers in Tendo City could put it up for the first auction in the New Year.

Two boxes were put up for sale on the 5th, of which the large 2L size "Sato Nishiki" weighing 500 grams per box was sold for 1 million yen, the highest ever in this market.

According to the market, it is the third year in a row that a bid for 1 million yen has been made.

According to the agricultural cooperative, this "Sato Nishiki" was worried about the lack of sunlight due to the snow from the beginning of last month, but the color is good and the quality is as high as usual.

Mr. Kenichi Mannen, second sales manager of the wholesale company "Jay Tendo Foods," which won the bid, said, "I won the bid because I wanted to contribute to the producer because the product is the product of the producer's efforts."

In addition, another "Sato Nishiki" shipped by the same farmer was sold for a record 1.3 million yen at the Ota market in Tokyo on the 5th.
