Pedro Sánchez had a coup de effect to end the year, also forced by the rise in the shopping basket as a result of the rise in prices caused by the war in Ukraine.

After a negotiation between the PSOE and Unidas Podemos, which was staged tense and up to the last moment, the Council of Ministers has approved

leaving basic foods without VAT

: milk, eggs, fruit, vegetables, bread, tubers or cereals.

These foods had a VAT of 4% and now they will not have.

Likewise, the VAT for oil and pasta is lowered from 10% to 5%.

These measures are part of a new anti-crisis package with which the Government wants to mark a turning point.

These are measures designed to make the shopping basket cheaper, which has increased so much in recent months and with which he wants to

bring the ball down from politics to the economic field

and leave behind controversies such as those recently experienced with the repeal of sedition, the reduction of embezzlement or the open institutional crisis with the Constitutional Court.

The new package promoted by the Government was finalized early this Tuesday morning in a meeting in La Moncloa between Pedro Sánchez and Yolanda Díaz.

In addition to the reduction in VAT on food, the Government is going to launch a check to help purchase food for 4.2 million households.

This new aid will consist of a payment of 200 euros for income of less than 27,000 euros per year and with assets of no more than 75,000 euros.
