Kansai Electric Power has revealed that employees can view customer information of other electric power companies called new power companies through its subsidiary Kansai Electric Power Transmission and Distribution, which is responsible for the transmission and distribution of electricity in the Kansai area.



This information should have been masked by Kansai Electric Power Transmission and Distribution, but sufficient measures were not taken, and information such as the contractor, name, and phone number could be viewed. .



When Kansai Electric Power Transmission and Distribution investigated the system records from the 6th to the 12th of this month, 329 people, including employees and contractors, accessed about 1,300 customer information.



This state of affairs appears to have continued since 2016, and Kansai Electric Power has decided to investigate the scale and cause of the fraud by a compliance committee made up of lawyers and others.



In the form of illegally obtaining customer information of competing companies, the national committee requested reports based on the Electricity Business Act from both companies.
