Expert: Tourism jobs will return to pre-pandemic levels over the next year

Assistant Professor at the Edinburgh Business School and an expert in tourism at Heriot-Watt University in Dubai, Dr. Sean Luchry, said, “Tourism globally provides 10% of job opportunities around the world, according to estimates by the World Travel and Tourism Council, and tourism jobs will reach certain levels.” Before the epidemic, it is expected to recover to 324 million in 2023.

He added: «Tourism is an important engine for the economic growth of countries, and the development of this sector was among the top priorities of governments around the world. UAE with $72 billion (264 billion dirhams), equivalent to 12.4% of GDP in 2027.

And he continued: «The UAE Tourism Strategy 2031, which was announced, finally confirms the vision of the UAE government to enhance the country's position as one of the best tourist destinations in the world.

With an annual increase of 27 billion dirhams, the government also aims to attract new investments worth 100 billion dirhams in the tourism sector.

He pointed out that «the continuous growth in the travel and tourism sector has led to a major shift in how companies interact with customers.

As the traveler's priorities evolve, focusing on and improving the customer experience becomes paramount.

Recent developments such as check-in at hotels and airports, virtual tours of museums and art galleries, and experiencing different destinations around the world, through virtual reality, or through metaverse technologies, have accelerated the integration of technology with travel.

It should also be noted that the increase in environmentally conscious travelers is driving the growth of sustainable tourism.”
