<Anchor> The

number of workers who receive work through the platform, such as food delivery and chauffeur driving, is estimated at about 800,000.

It was about 660,000 last year, but it increased by more than 20%, and six out of 10 responded that they were making a living doing platform labor as a full-time job, not a side job.

But even as more people work in these new forms, protections remain inadequate.

Reporter Jeong Ban-seok inspected the scene.

Jeong Tae-hyung, who works as a delivery rider in Ansan, Gyeonggi-do, has been in two accidents this year.

He was diagnosed with 4 weeks of total displacement after slipping on the snowy road while riding his motorcycle, and bumped his leg while passing a brick left on the road.

[Jung Tae-hyeong/Delivery Worker: There was damaged asphalt on top of the manhole, but I couldn't see it and kicked it away...

.

There are also people who see motorcycles and drive dangerously.

Even if you go honestly, the risk of accidents is too high.]

Colleague Sehun Park was also hit by a car during delivery during the last Chuseok holiday.

[Park Se-hoon/Delivery Worker: There was an accident where I was blown away by a car behind me while waiting for a left turn signal.]

Mr. Park worked as a social worker and started a delivery business after seeing that he could earn more income. Delivery revenue has declined significantly.

[Park Se-hoon/Delivery Worker: Last year, if you run a lot, you could do 100 a day, but now there are only 30 or 40 a day.]

As a result of the government's survey of 1,200 delivery workers, 43% had been in a traffic accident in the last 6 months, with an average of 2 accidents.

Excessive driving due to the tight delivery time was cited as the main cause.

[Jung Tae- hyung

/Delivery Worker: The lower the delivery fee, the more money you have to earn per hour, so the risk of accidents increases.]

Protection devices are inadequate.

We need to hasten social discussions on how to embrace new types of labor in labor legislation, such as giving platform companies a part of their role in preserving income and securing safety.
