The Inditex employees in

La Coruña

called off the strike scheduled for December 23 after the company committed to the majority union in the province, the

Galician Inter-Union Confederation (CIG)

, to apply a salary increase of 322 euros per month from of the January payroll and retroactively to November, the date on which the first strikes were called.

According to the union, the "intense and hard" fight that the workers of the Inditex stores in the province have been carrying out for a few months "finally bears fruit in the form of a pre-agreement with the multinational."

This increase, multiplied by 15 monthly payments, will mean a

total annual increase of more than 4,800 gross euros

, which is a "salary improvement that, this time, responds to the demands transferred by the dependents of the province of

A Coruña

and allows to shorten the enormous wage differences that exist with colleagues from other companies in the group".

In the appearance this Thursday, the CIG delegates explained that the company was increasing the amounts on the negotiating table.

Of the agreed amount, 122 euros were obtained through the increase in the so-called 'plus headquarters', which was already increased in an agreement between

Inditex

with the

UGT

and

CCOO

in November.

Apparently "insufficient" to them, the mobilizations continued until they managed to get Inditex to "pressure the provincial trade employers' association" to raise another 200 euros as a bonus for the specific agreement.

In addition, to fight against bias in the sector, the union assured that the agreed amounts "will not be charged proportionally to the working day, but that all staff will receive the same amount, except those people who are hired for 15 hours or less, who will receive half".

In total, for full-time workers, the increase will be 25% of the current salary.

To this first increase, a rise of

20 euros

per month will be added from November 2023 and

40

more euros in November 2024. Thus, CIG stressed that in the next 22 months the workers will achieve an increase of 380 euros per month over their current salary.

The delegates hope that the final text complies with everything promised, regretting that "in order to minimize the exemplary struggle of the women workers and hide the role of the CIG in this conflict, the multinational refused to sign an agreement directly with the social representation to the staff of its stores, as would be logical, opting to camouflage the increase through the agreement".

However, they indicated that "a lot of union work remains ahead to ensure that Inditex recognizes the social benefits and labor improvements that all workers deserve."

The CIG extolled that the "fight carried out by the workers of the Inditex stores is a very clear example of what mobilization and workers' struggle can achieve. Neither the media propaganda, nor the attempts by Inditex to boycott the strike or the demonstrations intimidating to the staff, nor the pretense of deactivating the fight by moving away from the negotiation of the direct intervention of the workers to be transferred to Madrid with the heads of the Spanish unions, managed to break the will, the decision and the firmness in the demands of the workers ".
