“Global coal consumption is expected to increase in 2022 by 1.2%, exceeding 8 billion tons for the first time,” the report says.

Coal demand is forecast to reach a record 8.025 billion tons.

“High natural gas prices amid the global energy crisis have led to an increased reliance on coal for energy production,” the IEA said.
