It has been officially decided that Takeshi Niinami, president of Suntory Holdings, will be appointed as the next representative secretary of the Keizai Doyukai.

The Keizai Doyukai has decided at the board meeting on the 16th that Suntory Holdings President Niinami will be appointed as the successor to Sakurada, whose term of office will end in April next year.

Mr. Niinami is 63 years old.

He joined Mitsubishi Corporation, a major trading company, and since 2002 he has been working to internationalize the convenience store business as the top management of Lawson, and since 2014 he has been the first president of Suntory Holdings other than the founding family.

Since 2014, he has served as a member of the government's Economic and Fiscal Advisory Council as a representative of the business community.

After the appointment was made, Mr. Niinami told reporters, ``I feel heavy as I have taken over the heavy baton, but the Doyukai has the advantage of being able to gather managers and have discussions with a sense of the field. I want to create a new society by changing things that need to be changed, even if they are."

Mr. Niinami has been serving as deputy secretary of Keizai Doyukai for the second time since 2020, and is scheduled to officially assume the position of secretary after the general meeting in April next year.
