A Jordanian police colonel who was shot while facing protesters.

The facts took place in the governorate of Maan, in the south of Jordan.

But scenes of anger have been reported in different regions of the kingdom: scuffles with the police, stone throwing, broken windows and burnt tires.

The strike movement and demonstrations began several days ago, led by truck drivers and then taxis, before spreading to other sectors.

The reason: the price of fuel, which has practically doubled since last year.

A surge in prices that worsens an already gloomy economic picture, with high unemployment and a heavy public debt.

Already in 2018, Jordan had been shaken by demonstrations

, against a backdrop of socio-economic demands.

The government then had to resign.
