Last summer, a family lost their lives due to heavy rain in a semi-basement in Sillim-dong, Seoul.

President Yoon, who toured the site at the time, ordered the establishment of housing safety measures.

The government suggested restoring the broken residential ladder as one of the countermeasures, and announced that it would supply high-quality public rental housing as a restoration method.

But yesterday, President Yoon made this evaluation of public rental housing.

[President Yoon Seok-yeol: There are many people who know public rental housing as a very good thing, but if you build and supply a lot of public rental housing, the central or local governments will have a significant financial burden, so it becomes a very big burden for taxpayers.]

In fact, next year's budget for public rental housing was reduced by 5.7 trillion won from this year.

The government's position is that the budget was reduced as the public jeonse project introduced temporarily during the last administration was terminated, but civic groups opposing the budget cut do not know the president who needs a 'place to live' right now, not 'buy' a house. He pointed out that the president needs friends who are homeless.

There are 1.8 million people across the country who are vulnerable to housing, living in semi-basements, jjokbang villages, and gosiwons.

[Jisoo/President of Slug Union: Public rental is so insufficient that even though it is very urgent to get out of the homeless situation, you will receive a waiting number of 600 (public rental).]

The number of public rental housing that will serve as a residential ladder is This is a reality that accounts for less than 1 in 10 of all homes.
