The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has compiled a draft support system for expanding the introduction of hydrogen and ammonia, which are attracting attention as next-generation energies.

By subsidizing the difference between the market price of coal and natural gas, the burden on companies will be reduced, and investment and diffusion will be encouraged.

Since hydrogen and ammonia do not emit carbon dioxide when burned, they are attracting attention as next-generation energy, and the government expects to invest more than 7 trillion yen in public and private sectors over the next 10 years.

Under these circumstances, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry presented a draft support system for expanding the introduction of hydrogen and ammonia at the council held on the 13th.

According to this, we will prioritize support for businesses that start supplying by around 2030, and subsidize the difference between the market price of coal and natural gas for 15 years in principle.

In addition, we will subsidize the cost of storage tanks and pipelines, etc., as we will develop about eight bases for large-scale domestic use of hydrogen and ammonia over the next 10 years.

The government intends to reduce the burden on companies through such a support system, and to encourage investment in and spread of hydrogen and ammonia supply networks (supply chains).

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will report on this matter at a government conference aimed at realizing a decarbonized society to be held later this month.
