Carrefour and the start-up Goggo will experiment from this Tuesday, and for six months, the delivery of shopping by electric autonomous car on the plateau of Saclay (Essonne), reports Actu Essonne.
This service, accessible from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., represents a French and European first, adds
Le Parisien
.
For customers, orders are made in the same way as traditional Drive orders, with same-day or next-day pick-up possible.
Prepared at the Plessis-Pâté automated warehouse, they are then sent to the Carrefour de Massy, then loaded into the shuttle, which travels 15 km to the campus of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris, in Palaiseau.
Once the vehicle has arrived, customers can remove their order from their locker using a code.
Reduce car traffic
The objective of this innovation is to reduce car traffic generated by supermarkets and to facilitate access to businesses in remote areas.
The vehicle, designed by Milla Group, travels at 70 km/h and has an operator present on board.
Ultimately, a security operator will be able to remotely supervise up to ten shuttles.
