Two members of Islamic Jihad killed in an Israeli raid in the West Bank

The Israeli army on Thursday killed two Palestinians in a raid on the Jenin refugee camp: an Islamic Jihad commander and a close associate, bringing the number of Palestinians killed in the past 72 hours to eight.

This city in the northern occupied West Bank has been at the heart of the biggest outbreak of violence in seven years in recent months.

In a statement, the Israeli army announced that it had arrested nine people and killed " 

two important leaders 

" during a raid: Mohammed Ayman al-Saadi, 26, leader of the armed wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad in the refugee camp of Jenin, and Naïm Jamal Zubaidi, 27, one of his relatives, the cousin of the famous Palestinian prisoner Zakaria Zubaidi.

Both were shot dead at dawn.

Information confirmed by the Jenin battalion of the Islamic Jihad's al-Quds brigades, which says it has lost two of its leaders.

The bodies of the two men were carried by a crowd of Palestinians from the Ibn Sina hospital and then through the streets of the Jenin refugee camp.

These two important terrorists who were defeated had planned and carried out attacks on Israeli territory

,” immediately commented outgoing Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid.

Mohammad Shtayyeh, Palestinian Prime Minister, for his part " 

warned against the consequences of the crimes of the occupation

 " and called for "

 urgent intervention

 " in order to calm things down. 

"

," threatened in a statement the Islamic Jihad, hailing the two "

martyrs

" of Jenin, and Israel fears rocket fire in retaliation from the Gaza Strip.
