According to a RIA Novosti source in Brussels, even if the EU countries fail to reach a compromise on prices, the European Commission is unlikely to delay the imposition of an embargo on oil imports by sea.

“There is strong pressure on the EC to reach an agreement by 5 December.

The idea of extending the oil embargo was raised during the talks, but for various reasons it has so far been rejected,” the agency’s interlocutor added.

Earlier, Reuters, citing diplomats, reported that the EU countries could not agree on the level of the price limit for oil from Russia.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said that the introduction of a ceiling on oil prices could lead to a shortage of energy resources.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, called the Western countries' idea of a price ceiling for Russian energy carriers a bottom.
