On September 2, 2022, the Office of the United States Trade Representative launched the second-stage review of the necessity of the four-year review of the 301 tariffs on China. Issues such as the impact on the U.S. economy are open for public comment.

In this regard, Sun Xiao said at a press conference held that day that since the United States imposed Section 301 tariffs on China’s US$360 billion export products in 2018, it has not only severely disrupted the normal economic and trade exchanges between China and the United States, but also caused serious damage to American manufacturers, Increased cost pressures from workers and consumers, and unfair competition.

He said that this review should be a good opportunity for the United States to stop this practice that harms others and does not benefit itself.

Sun Xiao said that it is understood that some people in the business and legal circles are worried that there are certain biases and inducements in the design and content of the questionnaire, which may affect the objectivity and fairness of the review investigation.

The China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and the China Chamber of International Commerce will pay close attention to this review investigation, and urge the US government to fully listen to the opinions of all parties, including Chinese stakeholders, and carry out relevant investigations in an objective, fair and just manner.
