Pay attention to what you want to pay attention to and what you don't pay attention to, investigate what you want to see and what you haven't seen.

China News Service, November 25th (China News Finance reporter Xie Yiguan) Recently, farmers in Cao County, Shandong Province "destroyed vegetables" has attracted attention. At the same time, residents in many places have reported that vegetable prices are cheaper than in previous years.

"The price of vegetables this winter is simply a 'jumping price'. A large lettuce is 1 yuan, and a cabbage is 1.5 yuan." "I used to buy a Chinese cabbage for 10 yuan, but now I can buy a bunch of Chinese cabbages for 10 yuan." Vegetables Is the price really as cheap as the residents say?

A reporter from China New Finance and Economics conducted an investigation.

The prices of some vegetables have been "halved" compared with the same period last year

On the evening of the 23rd, a reporter from Zhongxin Finance and Economics came to a vegetable market in Fengtai District, Beijing. As the closing time was approaching, some vegetables in the vegetable market were cheap to deal with.

A vendor at a vegetable stall told the reporter, "Fresh spinach costs 4 yuan a catty, and less fresh ones cost 2 yuan." As for the price of vegetables, the vendor also said, "Now it's much cheaper. When it was expensive, spinach could sell for 8 yuan." Yuan per catty."

At another stall, the Chinese cabbage that was originally 1.5 yuan a catty, the vendor said, "If you buy it, it will be 1 yuan a catty."

In addition to spinach and Chinese cabbage, a reporter from Zhongxin Finance and Economics noticed that the prices of various vegetables in the vegetable market have dropped. Compared with the same period last year, the prices of some vegetables have been directly "cut in half".

For example, celery sold at 3 yuan per catty in the vegetable market sold for 6 yuan per catty in November last year.

The price of vegetables has dropped, which can also be seen from the data.

The National Agricultural Products Wholesale Market Price Information System shows that from November 11 to November 17, the average price of 19 kinds of vegetables in 286 wholesale markets in production and marketing areas across the country was 3.69 yuan/kg, a decrease of 3.9% from last week and a year-on-year decrease of 32.5%.

  Among them, the prices of celery, lettuce, cauliflower, spinach and Chinese cabbage decreased by 13.5%, 10.6%, 10.4%, 9.4% and 8.7% month-on-month, and 50.7%, 29.7%, 54.2%, 49.3% and 49.3% year-on-year respectively. 47.1%.

In addition, the reporter learned that the price of vegetables in some places has dropped to a "trough".

In Zhumadian, Henan, Zheng Jie, a resident, told the reporter, “The cabbage I bought recently costs 9 cents a catty, cabbage costs 1.5 cents a catty, cauliflower costs 1.9 cents a catty, and broccoli costs 7 cents a catty.”

"I haven't seen such cheap vegetables for many years." Zheng Jie said, "A clothing store owner I know, the radishes grown at home are unsalable, so he directly started the activity of buying clothes and giving radishes."

Why do vegetable prices sit on a "slide"?

Why have the prices of various vegetables dropped recently, even significantly lower than in previous years?

Li Guoxiang, a researcher at the Institute of Rural Development of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, told a reporter from China New Finance and Economics, "Compared with last year, this year's vegetable growth season has better weather conditions. At the same time, due to the better vegetable prices since last year, vegetable farmers have higher enthusiasm for planting, and the planting area has also decreased. Increase. These factors have led to an increase in vegetable production, which in turn has led to lower prices."

Prior to this, the Planting Management Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs also released information. After consultation and analysis with the Vegetable and Flower Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the China Vegetable Association, and the National Meteorological Center, it is expected that the supply of vegetables in November will be relatively sufficient.

According to the Planting Management Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, first, the weather conditions are generally conducive to production.

Second, the area of vegetables in the field has increased, and the output is expected to increase year-on-year.

According to the schedule, at the end of October, the national vegetable field area was 91.73 million mu, a year-on-year increase of 1.74 million mu.

Vegetable land prices have fallen to a low point, encountering sales problems

Although the overall sales price of vegetables has dropped, many people may have noticed that compared with the market price, the land price of vegetables has dropped particularly significantly.

According to data from the Planting Management Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, in October 2022, the average monthly land price of 28 key monitored vegetable products was 2.75 yuan/kg, a month-on-month decrease of 1.1%, and a year-on-year decrease of 23.0% from the previous year, which was affected by severe autumn winds. The land price is at the lowest point in the same period in the past three years, 8.9% lower than the average of 3.02 yuan/kg in the same period in the past five years.

Mr. Cao is from Liuzhentun Town, Zhoukou City, Henan Province, which is a local vegetable production area.

He told reporters, "Now the wholesale price of radishes in the field is 10 cents per catty, and it was even as low as a few cents per catty before. The wholesale price of radishes in the same period last year was 50 or 60 cents per catty."

Regarding the drop in the price of radish fields, Mr. Cao said, "This year's weather is good, and the radish harvest is good. In addition, last year's market was good, and this year we have expanded the planting."

However, the good yield did not bring good sales. Due to the epidemic and the decline in market consumption, the radishes suffered from slow sales after they were concentrated on the market. Mr. Cao, like other local vegetable farmers, hopes to sell them as soon as possible even if the price is low.

According to relevant statistics in Henan Province, there are varying degrees of unsalable vegetables in the 50 major planting counties in the province.

The reporter noticed that not only in Henan, but also in Gansu, Shandong, Hebei and other places where vegetables are unsalable.

The government takes action to solve the phenomenon of "cheap vegetables hurt farmers"

"Expensive vegetables hurt the people, and cheap vegetables hurt farmers." According to industry insiders, unsalable vegetables and vegetable prices falling below the cost line will not only cause losses to vegetable farmers, but also dampen their enthusiasm for planting, which is not conducive to the stability of vegetable prices in the later period.

In the face of problems such as poor sales of vegetables in many places, local governments have begun to take action.

Recently, the Henan Provincial Government has held relevant meetings several times to arrange and deploy vegetable promotion work.

The General Office of the Henan Provincial People's Government issued the "Notice on Carrying out Vegetable Promotion Work" on the 19th, starting from optimizing epidemic prevention and control measures and strengthening the connection between vegetable production and marketing, and striving to solve the problem of unsalable vegetables.

On the 22nd, Henan Province issued the "Urgent Notice on Strictly Implementing the Logistics Guarantee Policy and Resolutely Correcting Layer-by-Level Overweight Problems", mentioning that it will do its best to ensure the smooth transportation of vegetables.

It is strictly forbidden to block roads without authorization, and ensure the smooth flow of roads leading to vegetable bases, agricultural product wholesale markets and other places.

Encourage the adoption of "point-to-point" methods according to local conditions to solve the problem of cross-regional transportation of vegetables.

A few days ago, farmers in Cao County, Shandong Province "destroyed vegetables" caused concern because they could not be sold or sold at a higher price.

In the face of unsalable local celery and other phenomena, the relevant person in charge of the Agriculture and Rural Bureau of Cao County, Shandong Province responded that they have contacted local supermarkets and other farmers to connect with farmers, and helped farmers sell vegetables during the time difference.

Mr. Cao said that recently, with the help of the local government, the media and some Internet celebrities, the market for vegetables has started to improve. Many people went to the village to collect the goods, and he has recovered a lot of losses.
