The Federal Network Agency wants to use five new indicators to assess whether there is a risk of a gas shortage in Germany in winter.

"The indicators give us a quick assessment and forecast of the current situation," said the President of the regulatory authority, Klaus Müller, on Friday.

"As of today, all indicators are stable," he emphasized.

The regulator will assess the gas supply based on a temperature forecast, the temperature-adjusted gas consumption, the storage levels, the situation in neighboring countries and the procurement of control energy.

This is done for each indicator in the stages stable, tense and critical.

The indicators are intended to be “points of reference when discussing a gas shortage and when an emergency level is declared”.

The decision to declare an emergency level lies with the federal government, emphasized Müller.

In the event of a gas shortage, interventions in the supply threaten.

Müller continued to insist on savings, which should be 25 percent – previously Müller had usually spoken of “at least 20 percent”.
