Like every month, the UFC-Que Choisir association established, on Tuesday, a consumer price index.

Its analysis reveals that inflation has stabilized around 5.9% for the month of November 2022, compared to the same month last year.

But two sectors would still be affected by a significant increase: food and household equipment.

Among these: smartphones, vacuum cleaners, refrigerators, freezers, heaters and air conditioners.

The prices of these products have increased by 11 to 12% in one year.

More expensive production and transport

“Domestic appliances incorporate many metal parts and components (iron, stainless steel, steel, copper, etc.) whose production processes are highly energy-intensive,” says Gifam, the group of home appliance brands.

Added to this are the rise in transport costs and the increase in fuel prices, but also the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic, in particular the confinements in China.

For food and hygiene expenditure, the increase is around 13%, compared to less than 12% in October 2022: +12.9% for purchases in supermarkets, +13% for food and +13 % for hygiene and beauty.

The only lull in this avalanche of increases: energy prices, which remain under control, thanks to price shields.
