A colonel of the Revolutionary Guards, Iran's ideological army, was killed on Monday (November 21st) in Syria near Damascus by a homemade bomb attributed to Israel, local media reported on Wednesday.

," the Tasnim news agency said, quoting a statement from the Guardians.
Iran says it has no troops in Syria but says military "
advisers
" from the Guardians are operating alongside the Syrian state at the invitation of Damascus.

,” the text added.
Israel and the US-led international anti-jihadist coalition have carried out several raids in recent years against pro-Iranian militias in Syria.
Prevent Iran from establishing a foothold in Israel
On November 9, a raid targeted in the night a convoy of weapons and fuel of pro-Iranian militias in Syria, near the border with Iraq, killing at least 14 people according to a Syrian NGO.
In March, the Guardians announced the death of two high-ranking officers, killed in an Israeli attack in Syria, threatening to retaliate to avenge them.
If Israel rarely comments on the strikes carried out in Syria, it has justified them on several occasions by the need to prevent Iran from establishing itself near its borders.
