Chinanews.com, Guangzhou, November 22 (Cai Minjie Luqiaoxuan) On the 22nd, the Shanmei Expressway Reconstruction and Expansion Project affiliated to Guangdong Communications Group held a construction mobilization meeting in Meizhou, marking the first mountainous and hilly expressway reconstruction and expansion project in Guangdong Province. Construction has started in an all-round way and is expected to be completed and open to traffic in 2026.

The Shantou-Mei Expressway is an important channel for north-south freight transport in the northeast of Guangdong Province. It connects the three provinces of Guangdong, Jiangxi and Fujian, and assumes the function of a comprehensive hub (airport, railway, port) in the northeastern region of Guangdong.

With the development of society and economy, the service level of some sections of Shantou-Mei Expressway in mountainous and hilly areas can no longer meet the increasing demand for vehicle traffic, which has become a traffic bottleneck restricting local economic development, and urgently needs to be rebuilt and expanded.

Shanmei Expressway Reconstruction and Expansion Project has a total length of about 88 kilometers. It starts from the Jieyang hub where S17 Jiepuhui Expressway intersects, passes through Jiedong District of Jieyang City, Fengshun County, Xingning City, and Meixian District of Meizhou City, and finally connects with G25 Changshen Expressway, S12 Meilong Expressway Interconnected Chengjiang Hub Interconnection.

The current status of the project is two-way four-lane, and will be rebuilt and expanded according to the two-way eight-lane standard. The design speed is 100 km/h, and the construction period is 4 years.

After the completion of the project, the traffic capacity and service level will be significantly improved.

Shantou-Mei Expressway Reconstruction and Expansion Project is the first reconstruction and expansion project of expressway in mountainous and hilly areas in Guangdong Province.

The existing roads were built earlier, with low technical indicators, and there are 9 crossings with railways along the line, 41 crossing rivers and waterways, and 6 crossings of national and provincial roads. The construction conditions are complex.

The project crosses multiple fault structures, with complex terrain and poor geological conditions. There are 93 high slopes along the entire line, the highest slope is as high as 87 meters, and excavation is carried out while it is open to traffic. It is very difficult to ensure safety.

The project focuses on the goal of "renovating the old as new and super-new". On the basis of benefiting the old, the improvement of driving safety and service level is considered as a whole, and the technical indicators are flexibly used to reasonably determine the reconstruction and expansion plan.

"We have set up a number of design topics and research topics in combination with the characteristics of mountainous and hilly areas, and have given full play to our professional technology and R&D capabilities to provide technical reserves and technological support for the reconstruction and expansion project of Shanmei Expressway, and strive to build a high-speed reconstruction and expansion project in mountainous and hilly areas. A typical demonstration project of highways." Li Yongquan, deputy director and chief engineer of Shanmei Expressway Reconstruction and Expansion Project Management Office, introduced.

The completion of the reconstruction and expansion project of Shantou-Mei Expressway will play an important role in building a new development pattern of "one core, one belt and one area" in Guangdong Province, promoting the interconnection of infrastructure in northeastern Guangdong, driving local economic development and upgrading of industrial layout along the line, and promoting the development of tourism along the line. Play an important role.
