In fact, everything was settled.

The sale and consumption of alcohol would remain largely banned in conservative Islamic Qatar.

But in selected "fan zones" around the stadiums, before and after the games, it should be made possible at least for the "Budweiser" beer brand from the American brewery Anheuser-Busch Inbev (AB Inbev).

After all, AB Inbev is also one of the sponsors of this year's World Cup and has paid FIFA millions to be able to sell its beer exclusively in Qatar.

Now, as the Bloomberg news agency reports with reference to an informed person, the Qatari authorities are considering a ban on the sale of alcohol in the World Cup stadiums.

The looming decision would result in concession stands having to be set up further away from stadiums.

The only other locations where the sale of alcohol is permitted in Qatar are restaurants attached to hotels or resorts and a single Qatar Airways outlet on the outskirts of the city of Doha.

Due to the expanded possibility of sales in the fan zones of the stadiums, AB Inbev had let it be expected that more beer would be sold in Qatar during the World Cup than at any other time in a year.
