The Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), and its consortium of partners, Infinity Power Holdings and Hassan Allam Utilities Company, announced the signing of a framework agreement with government agencies in Egypt to develop a green hydrogen project with a capacity of two gigawatts within the Suez Canal Economic Zone, as a first stage. From the program to produce four gigawatts of this vital resource.

The consortium led by Masdar signed two memorandums of understanding last April with the concerned Egyptian authorities to cooperate in developing two green hydrogen production plants, one in the Suez Canal Economic Zone and the other on the Mediterranean coast.

Masdar said in a statement yesterday that the consortium seeks to produce up to 480,000 tons of green hydrogen annually, through electrolyzers with a capacity of four gigawatts by 2030.

During the first phase of the project, the consortium plans to establish a hydrogen production plant in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, with operations to begin by 2026.

The electrolyzer manufacturing plants will be increased within the Suez Canal economic zone and on the Mediterranean coast, to provide a production capacity that may reach four gigawatts by 2030 to produce 2.3 million tons of green ammonia for export, in addition to supplying local industries with green hydrogen.
