Since Wednesday, the government rebate that applies to the pump is down.

It goes from 0.30 euro per liter to 0.10 euro per liter of fuel, before being completely abolished at the end of the year.

Same result at TotalEnergies, which reduced its reduction from 0.20 to 0.10 euro per liter, with a disappearance also scheduled for December 31.

In place since April 2022, with a rebate of 0.18 euro per liter at the start, state aid is therefore living its last moments.

But the government has not said its last word, reports

Les Echos

.

If he should spend 7.6 billion euros in 2022 for these boosts, he still plans to help the French, but otherwise.

A “big wheels” device

Bercy has already been promising for several weeks a new, more targeted system, which should be put in place from the beginning of 2023. It would be a new check, which is not completely unanimous: "The French are increasingly irritated by this idea of checks, there are many who feel they will never be entitled to them.

We want a targeted device that helps those who work, ”a ministerial adviser told our colleagues.

Gabriel Attal, Minister Delegate to the Minister of the Economy, explained that a “big wheeler” device would be put in place to “support French people who need their car to have income from work”.

This was to be implemented before the summer but had been abandoned in favor of the rebate for all.

For whom and how much

Since then, the device has been refined.

A website of the Directorate General of Public Finances (DGFiP) must be set up, allowing households to fill in their information and possibly benefit from assistance.

Gabriel Attal clarified that the aid would be intended for "big workers" to "accompany the French who need their car to have income from activity".

It remains to be defined who will be able to benefit from this device and the amount of it.

11 million households belonging to the "lower and middle classes" would be affected.

The State has provided an envelope of 1.6 billion euros for this new provision.
