China News Agency, Beijing, November 9th. Sharm El Sheikh News: President Xi Jinping's special representative and China's special envoy for climate change Xie Zhenhua said on the 8th local time that starting from the actual situation of China's methane emission control, at this stage, China's methane emission control is limited. The key is to consolidate basic capabilities, establish top-level design, follow the principle of first easy and then difficult, start from areas with relatively good work foundation, and gradually promote methane emission control work.

The twenty-seventh Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) is being held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

Xie Zhenhua made the remarks while attending a high-level event on "Sprint Moment: Targeting Methane Emissions" organized by the World Bank.

Xie Zhenhua said that China attaches great importance to the control of methane emissions.

In recent years, in the field of coal, China has issued the "Coalbed Methane (Coal Mine Gas) Emission Standard (Interim)", and introduced subsidy policies to encourage the recycling and utilization of CBM (coal mine gas). Methane Emission Control Alliance”, set emission reduction targets, and explore and carry out methane recycling and testing; Institutional Plan" to strengthen garbage sorting and recycling; at the same time, promote the use of market mechanisms to encourage enterprises to control methane emissions.

Xie Zhenhua pointed out that methane is the second largest greenhouse gas in the world and a short-lived greenhouse gas. Reducing methane emissions will have an immediate effect on slowing down global climate change.

From an international perspective, developed countries already have relatively complete institutional systems, data bases and technical capabilities for methane emission control.

He said that China will adhere to the system concept, adhere to the coordinated promotion of carbon reduction, pollution reduction, green expansion, and growth, and properly handle the relationship between methane emission reduction and energy security, food security, and protection of people's lives.

China is also willing to strengthen communication and exchanges with other countries, carry out exchanges and cooperation in the formulation of methane emission control policies, technological innovation and promotion and application, and jointly contribute to the response to global climate change.
