Toyota Motor Corporation has announced that it will sell EVs (electric vehicles) in the form of government subsidies in Thailand, a major market in Southeast Asia.

In the future, we are also considering local production of EVs in Thailand, and competition with leading Chinese manufacturers in this field is likely to intensify.

Toyota Motor Corporation held an event in Bangkok, Thailand on the 9th, and announced that it will sell SUV = multi-purpose sports type EV in Thailand.

It will be the first import and sale in the form of receiving a subsidy from the Thai government's promotion measures for the spread of EVs.

The price is said to be about 7 million yen in Japanese yen after applying the subsidy.

At the presentation, the EV was accelerated rapidly and ran through a waterway about 30 centimeters deep, demonstrating that there were no problems driving even in Thailand, where roads are often flooded due to heavy rain.

Toyota has a 30% share of the automotive market in Thailand, making it a major market, and Toyota is considering local production of EVs in the future.

Regarding EVs, Chinese makers are leading the way, with Chinese EV giant BYD already announcing the construction of a new factory in Thailand, and competition in this field is likely to intensify in the future.
