(The 5th CIIE) Depth | How can China's CIIE "make wealth" the world?

China News Agency, Shanghai, November 9th: In-depth | How does China's CIIE "create wealth" in the world?

China News Agency reporter Zhong Sheng

When he first arrived at Ali Faiz's booth, he was busy adjusting the display cabinet arrangement with his companions.

"Previously, the booth separated the inside and outside of the booth, and it was inconvenient to communicate with the audience directly." Although the booth area is small, the exhibitor from Afghanistan is always thinking about how to better integrate into the Chinese market.

Ali's father ran a foreign trade company in Afghanistan, so Ali was surrounded by various agricultural supplies from China since he was a child.

"It makes me curious, what kind of Afghan goods will China have? In the huge Chinese market, what can Afghanistan sell?"

With the idea of exploring the Chinese market, Ali came to China to study.

He was surprised to find: "In China, not to mention our company's products, not even a single item from Afghanistan." After graduation, Ali chose to stay in China and introduce high-quality products from Afghanistan into the Chinese market.

In 2020, Ali participated in the CIIE for the first time. Although there were not many products, the feedback from customers was very good.

Since then, Ali has become a frequent visitor to the CIIE.

On the eve of the 2021 China International Import Expo, affected by various factors, Afghanistan's specialty pine nuts encountered difficulties in sales.

At the critical moment, China and Afghanistan specially opened the "Pine Nuts Air Corridor", which made the Afghan Pine Nuts enter the CIIE smoothly.

Ali said with emotion: "When the door of Afghan commodities to the world was closed, it was China who opened a window for us." For this reason, he gave his pine nuts the trade name "Love of the Afghan people".

This year, Ali brought more Afghan products to the Expo, including lapis lazuli handicrafts, handmade carpets, leather bags, as well as pine nuts, raisins, and dried figs.

Among them, the carpet is Ali's flagship product.

He told a reporter from China News Agency that it took five or six members of an Afghan family to weave a carpet for nearly half a year.

At present, Afghanistan is full of waste. Every time he sells a carpet, he can earn a year's living expenses for an Afghan family.

This year, the company's carpet sales in China are expected to increase by 10% to 20%, solving the livelihood problems for more Afghans.

When parting, Ali did not forget to remind: "My trading company is called 'Bilalu', which means 'brother' in Afghan language. I hope the friendship between the people of Afghanistan and China will last forever like brothers."

In addition to "carrying goods", Hailan from Sri Lanka will use his mobile phone to check the current situation of his hometown from time to time.

After the outbreak of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, the number of tourists to Sri Lanka dropped sharply. In the first half of this year, the domestic situation in Sri Lanka was unstable, which had a great impact on its pillar tourism and agriculture.

In order to alleviate the predicament, Sri Lankan businessmen who used to wait for tourists to "come in" chose to "go out" to the Chinese market.

At this year's CIIE, they brought Sri Lankan cashews to China for the first time, hoping to win the favor of consumers.

Hailan said that after Sri Lanka suffered difficulties, China quickly extended a helping hand. During the Expo, a batch of grain and diesel oil from China arrived in Sri Lanka one after another.

This kind of responsibility as a big country also makes Hailan and the Sri Lankan businessmen participating in the exhibition even more looking forward to deepening economic and trade exchanges with China and achieving mutual benefit and win-win results.

Participating in the CIIE for five consecutive years, the annual sales of Ma Yuxia alpaca products increased by nearly 20 times compared with 2018.

Along with it, Peruvian artisans who made goods were also prosperous.

Ma Yuxia often tells visitors that the family of the Peruvian uncle Mamani, who was the first to work with her, built a new house and drove a new car.

Now in Peru, there are hundreds of families who cooperate with Ma Yuxia alone.

Affected by the new crown pneumonia epidemic, Peru's tourism industry was suspended, and the alpaca products originally sold to travelers as souvenirs suddenly lost their sales.

However, thanks to the vigorous growth of the Chinese market, these handicraftsmen are still receiving orders, and their incomes have not decreased but increased.

From the ravines and valleys of Central Asia, to the lofty mountains of the Andes, to the rainforests on the Pacific Islands, through the bridge of the China International Import Expo, people who once did not know what "international trade" was, began to show their treasures in front of the world. And gain wealth and joy from it.

This year, companies from 127 countries and regions participated in the 5th CIIE Enterprise and Business Exhibition, and 66 countries and 3 international organizations participated in the national comprehensive exhibition, more than the previous one.

The "circle of friends" of the CIIE is expanding all over the world, and the development achievements are benefiting people of all countries more and more equitably.
