A night placed under the sign of generosity.

The National Assembly adopted a series of measures to counter inflation in its 2022 amending budget last night, a text adopted with 181 votes in favor and 137 votes against.

Among the measures which were unanimously approved is aid of 230 million euros for households heating with wood, modeled on that introduced this summer for homes heating with fuel oil.

The socialist amendment in favor of this aid, adopted with 218 votes for and only one against, received the support of the government.

Several opposition groups had made proposals in this direction, and the executive had meant from the start of the debates that it would be “open” on the subject.

"It's a great cross-party victory," welcomed the Minister Delegate for Public Accounts Gabriel Attal in the hemicycle.

Three million French people concerned

He added that the government was mobilized to shed light on suspicions of firewood speculation.

“We will not hesitate to crack down” in the event of fraud, he assured.

According to the Ecological Transition Agency (Ademe), wood is the main source of heating for more than three million French people, with more and more pellet boilers.

An LR amendment to increase the resources dedicated to "MaPrimeRénov'" by 29 million euros, a device for aiding the thermal renovation of housing, was also adopted on Tuesday evening.

It aims to make it more accessible to the middle classes.

The Assembly also adopted aid of 5 million euros to the press to cope with the rise in the price of paper, proposed by the Renaissance deputy Denis Masséglia.
