Obong Station, where a KORAIL worker died while working last Saturday, plays a major role in the supply of cement in the metropolitan area. After the accident, the freight train service was suspended for investigation, affecting construction sites in the metropolitan area.

Correspondent Jo Yoon-ha reported.

<Reporter> This

is a construction site for a multi-family house in Namyangju, Gyeonggi-do.

I went up to the roof of the 4th floor of the construction site.

This space becomes the wall of the building.

According to the original plan, we were going to start pouring cement here in two days.

However, the cement company contacted me that they could not supply on that date.

This is because, at Obong Station, a cement supply base in the metropolitan area, a KORAIL employee was hit and killed by a train on the 5th, and all transportation work was stopped.

[Kim Jong-guk / Construction company site manager: If you cannot pour, everything from the carpenter to the rebar (worker) has to rest.

you won't be able to work.

As a result, the completion date is delayed.

That's my biggest concern.]

With the supply of cement cut off, this is happening all over the construction sites in the metropolitan area from today (9th).

The Ministry of Employment and Labor, which is investigating the cause of the accident, said the operation could not resume if there were factors that could endanger worker safety.

KORAIL has to find and fix the problem on its own, but we don't know when it will be finished.

[Jeong Hyeon-deok / Cement company employee: There is no stock right now.

We have no stock to ship, so we are currently on a standstill.

There is no cement, so I use ready-mixed concrete every day and adjust it every evening.

Because of the volume.]

During the investigation period, it is pointed out that the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport should take emergency measures as transportation has to be done by truck.
