The hotel industry has called a blackout on Tuesday to protest the increase in energy costs.

This is

a symbolic lights-out

in establishments in many Spanish provinces, which will take place at seven in the evening.

This act has been called by the different associations of the sector: Hospitality of Spain and Restoration Brands, and also other associations of the Community of Madrid, where a manifesto will be read in the Plaza Mayor.

The sector denounces

the escalation of costs

that companies in the sector are suffering, especially energy, which represents between 6% and 8% of the totals of a hotel business.

Energy crisis

The sector calculates that

this cost has skyrocketed between 20% and 40%

, depending on the size and type of hospitality business.

In addition to these increases, they remember that we must add those of raw materials and food.

The cost of the products varies between 25% and 40% of the total, depending on the type of products offered by the different establishments.

Varying from what can be represented by cafeterias, which are closer to 25%, and luxury restaurants, which are closer to 50%

This symbolic blackout in Madrid will be replicated in Granada, Córdoba, Ciudad Real, León, Murcia, Málaga, La Rioja, Alicante, Almería, Ávila, Seville, Lleida, Zaragoza, Teruel, Asturias, Salamanca, Segovia, A Coruña, Huelva, Cádiz , Jaen and Cantabria.
