Taiwanese company begins assembling iPhones in India

The Taiwanese company Pegatron Corp., a contractor with the American electronics company Apple, has started assembling iPhone phones in India.

And Bloomberg news agency reported that the company has started assembling iPhone 14 phones in India, becoming the second supplier to Apple that produces these modern phones in India, according to informed sources who requested anonymity.

This comes at a time when the authorities in the Chinese city of Zhengzhou, which includes a major center for the manufacture of iPhone phones and managed by the "Foxconn Technology" group, announced the imposition of a closure process to control the Corona pandemic.

The sources pointed out that this situation highlighted Apple's heavy dependence on China, while the expansion in India is consistent with the plans that the American company has already laid out to diversify its manufacturing centers.

The Pegatron factory is located in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, and employs more than seven thousand people, and it began manufacturing headphones for iPhone 12 phones earlier this year.

Apple, based in California, USA, is seeking to diversify production centers, in light of the trade war between Washington and Beijing, and the strict closure policy applied by Chinese President Xi Jinping to control the Corona virus.

Representatives for Apple and Pegatron declined to comment on the reports.
