Antonio Carmona will fly to London to work as

Iberdrola

's external advisor

just over a year after landing at the company as Director of Communications and Institutional Relations for the group and Vice President of Iberdrola Spain.

Sources inside the power company assure that Carmona himself was the one who requested the transfer this summer.

A week ago it became known that Carmona was leaving the vice presidency of the company in Spain, thereby losing his seat on the board of directors of the energy group chaired by

Ignacio Sánchez Galán

.

Now, it is known that the manager will also change his area of responsibility, to start serving Iberdrola as an investment analyst and market researcher from the City of London, once stripped of executive functions.

From the company they understand that Carmona, former deputy for the PSOE in the Madrid Assembly, has already completed his work in the creation of the group's communication area, which had been dismantled after the mass departure of a large part of those responsible for the department , including his director, Ricardo Hernández, who held the position for just six months before being replaced by José Luis Fernández Peña, who came to the company under the wing of Carmona himself.

In the sector, the signing of Carmona was analyzed as a strategic move by the company to build bridges with the Government, at a time of special tension in the relationship between Galán and Moncloa.

A year later, relations between the two have not improved.

According to the sources consulted, Iberdrola gave Carmona several options, all of which required the manager to resign his position on the board and his executive powers.

Market sources analyze with surprise the transfer and the 180-degree turn in the tasks that Carmona will assume, given that Iberdrola already has a battalion of investment advisers.

Carmona, for his part, claims to be "very happy" with the decision in conversations with

EL MUNDO
