Tension rises in Iran on 40th day of mourning for Mahsa Amini

, who died on September 16 after being arrested by vice squad in Tehran for wearing a veil deemed improper. 

Once again, students demonstrated on Tuesday, October 25 in several universities in the country to denounce the repression exerted by the security forces, accused of having beaten schoolgirls the day before.

According to several activists, the security forces warned his parents of Mahsa Amini: no commemoration ceremony, as is normally the tradition for a 40ᵉ day of mourning, nor meeting around his grave.

A press release published Tuesday evening by the official press agency Irna also confirms the information.

His brother's life would also be threatened to prevent the family from defying the ban.

For several days, none of her relatives have spoken to the media, but human rights activists are still expecting tributes at the young woman's grave.

Two members of the Revolutionary Guards, Iran's ideological army, were shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Tuesday in Zahedan, in the south-east.

This region was affected by several days of violence sparked on September 30 during demonstrations against the rape of a young girl attributed to a policeman, which left at least 93 dead according to the NGO Iran Human Rights (IHR).

At least 234 people have died since the start of the mobilizations, according to the IHR.

Hundreds of people have been arrested and their relatives denounce torture and rape committed in prison.
