He noted that Turkey is currently one of the largest recipients of gas from Russia.

Peskov recalled that Russia and Turkey are actually connected by one of the largest gas pipeline systems, the Turkish Stream.

The Kremlin noted that the gas pipeline "has a serious potential for expansion if necessary."

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed creating the largest gas hub for Europe in Turkey, moving the volume of gas lost due to the emergency at Nord Stream to the Black Sea region.

The Kremlin said Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan welcomed Putin's proposal for a gas hub in Turkey.
