  Marco Troyo said that at present, the world is facing serious challenges, climate risks, geopolitical tensions, technological disruption and demographic changes.

Going forward, the NDB is expected to meet the development needs of the growing populations of emerging countries, which are expected to account for 60% of global GDP when the strategic cycle ends in 2026.

  Marco Troyo introduced that, in order to cope with the challenging financing environment, the NDB has formulated the second overall strategy by gathering the wisdom of member countries and stakeholders.

The strategy focuses on specific industry sectors, including clean energy, transport, water and sanitation, as well as social and digital infrastructure, with a focus on comprehensive development.

  In order to achieve the strategic goals, Marco Troyo said that it is necessary to build a stronger institution that will continue to attract and cultivate talents, who are the most valuable capital of a bank.

The expansion process will also take place in a gradual and balanced manner.

  “Between 2022 and 2026, we will strive to maximize the benefits of each investment project. We will also increase the proportion of local currency financing and non-sovereign operations to 30% of the total agreement, with a target of 40% for climate financing To create more space for mutual cooperation, we will also work with many multilateral institutions to provide more opportunities for co-financing, co-learning and knowledge sharing," said Marco Troyo.

  The New Development Bank is a multilateral development bank established in 2015 by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

The NDB aims to be a global multilateral development bank with membership open to all members of the United Nations.

In 2021, the NDB will include Bangladesh, Uruguay, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt as new members.
