DB World: 2.5% growth in container volumes during 9 months

DB World Limited, a provider of integrated smart logistics solutions to enable trade flow around the world, said it handled 59.6 million 20-foot equivalent units (TEU) across its global portfolio of container terminals in the first nine months of 2022, with an overall increase in volumes. Containers: 2.0% YoY, up 2.5% on a like-forward basis.

On a Q3 2022 basis, DB World handled 20.1 million 20-foot equivalent containers (TEUs), an increase of 1.5% year-over-year and a like-for-like increase of 2.1%, it said in a press release.

Overall volume growth in Q3 2022 was primarily driven by numbers in the Asia Pacific, Middle East, Africa, Americas and Australia region with strong performance from Qingdao (China), Asian Terminals Inc (Philippines), and Lime Chabang International Terminal (Thailand), Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), Vancouver (Canada), Posorja (Ecuador), Santos (Brazil), and Australia.

At Jebel Ali Port (UAE), 3.5 million 20-foot equivalent containers (TEUs) were handled during the third quarter of 2022, representing an increase of 2.0% year-on-year.

Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of DB World Group, said: “We announce a strong performance in the volume of handling again, with a growth in the total volume of handling during the first nine months of 2022 estimated at 2.5%, to come again. ahead of the sector growth rate by 1.1%, and as expected, growth rates have slowed due to tougher market conditions, but global trade continues to hold and our portfolio is expected to continue to outperform the market.”

He added, “The growth in the third quarter was primarily driven by the strong performance of our container terminals in the Asia Pacific region, the Americas and Australia. Encouragingly, our main port in Jebel Ali (UAE) achieved an improved performance with a growth in total handling volume of 2.0%. on an annual basis.”
