Consumers in Abu Dhabi confirmed that the current period has witnessed, for the first time, the entry of a large number of medium-sized outlets "supermarkets" to the retail market in Abu Dhabi, which gave them several options, in addition to major outlets and groceries.

They explained to "Emirates Today", that the new sales outlets are remarkably located in the middle of some residential communities, and are characterized by the diversity of goods in them, calling on these outlets to offer discounts on goods similar to the major outlets.

In turn, two officials in the two outlets considered that the spread of medium outlets would change the map of retail in the Abu Dhabi market, increase dependence on it, raise the quality of goods, and lower their prices in the medium and long term, given the intense competition.

They attributed the lack of discounts, or their scarcity in medium outlets, to the lack of profit margins, and the absence of collective import contracts in them.

Several options

Consumer Hana Salem said: “During the current period, the Abu Dhabi market is witnessing, for the first time, the entry of a large number of medium sales outlets (supermarkets), which allowed them to have several options to buy, in addition to major outlets far from their place of residence, and groceries that offer their goods. at high prices.”

Salem confirmed that "it has become dependent on supermarket outlets to meet some of their needs in the middle of the week, especially since these outlets are located in the middle of residential communities, in addition to their competitive prices that are close to the prices of major outlets, and the variety of goods in them."

Salem demanded that the medium-term outlets offer discounts on goods, similar to the major outlets, and the continued tightening of control by the concerned authorities on the markets with regard to prices, quality, and the validity periods of goods.

nearby outlets

Consumer Ahlam Eid agreed that she is now buying a large part of her daily needs from medium outlets, pointing out that there are four of them near her place of residence, which means that she does not use the car or public transportation to reach her.

She said, "It is the first time that medium-sized outlets have spread from supermarkets in the vicinity of her residence," noting that the prices are generally appropriate, and the price of some of them is lower than their counterpart in the large outlets, while some prices rise slightly.

And middle-market outlets called for offering discounts on goods, to ease the burden on consumers, noting the scarcity of these outlets offering discounts or special offers on commodity prices.

He stressed that he "began to rely on these outlets to meet the needs of his family, given their proximity to his home, instead of the major outlets that need to drive the vehicle, in addition to the severe congestion, and the difficulty of having parking spaces," noting that small groceries sell at high prices and in a way unjustified.

Jamal agreed on the importance of supermarket outlets offering discounts or offers on goods, as most of them do not offer that. He also called for tighter control over them.

Retail Map

He attributed the lack of discounts, or their scarcity, in the medium sales outlets, to the lack of profit margin, and the absence of contracts for collective import in them, stressing that “the coming period will witness an improvement in performance and prices, given that the medium outlets are new in the market, and they need a period to get acquainted with them.” market conditions and business development.

The official at a large outlet in Abu Dhabi, Hamed Abdullah, agreed that the spread of medium-sized outlets near population centers, with their appropriate prices and the quality of their goods, changes the retail map in the Abu Dhabi market, which supports the investment climate in the sector.

Competition in the interest of the consumer

Retail expert Davey Nagpal said that "the spread of medium-sized outlets supports the retail sector, changes the map of the sector, and increases competition between different outlets, which is in the interest of consumers, lowers prices and raises the quality of goods."

Nagbal stressed the importance of medium sales outlets offering discounts on the prices of goods, which raises their sales, pointing out that medium sales outlets are required to gain consumer satisfaction, in different ways in the current period, and increase confidence in them, through discounts and special offers.
