ADNOC Drilling achieves a new milestone by drilling the world's longest well in the Upper Zakum concession

The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) today announced that it has set a new world record by drilling the longest oil and gas well in the Upper Zakum concession.

The well extends for a distance of 50,000 feet and its length exceeds the record for the longest well in the world previously announced in 2017, by about 800 feet, and supports ADNOC's efforts to increase its production capacity from oil and gas resources to contribute to meeting the growing global demand for energy.

ADNOC Drilling drilled the new well from Umm Al Anbar Island, one of ADNOC's artificial offshore islands.

This ground-breaking engineering achievement is part of the extended drilling project designed and led by ADNOC Offshore in cooperation with its international strategic partners in the Upper Zakum field, including ExxonMobil and Inpex/Jodco.

The wells being drilled using the extended drilling technology aim to benefit from the undeveloped resources within the giant "Upper Zakum" reservoir, with the possibility of raising the field's production capacity by about 15,000 barrels of oil per day, without the need for any expansion or construction of new infrastructure.

On this occasion, ADNOC Drilling CEO Abdul Rahman Abdullah Al-Saiari said: "This exceptional achievement, represented in achieving a record for drilling the longest well, comes as a result of ADNOC Drilling's efforts to raise the operational efficiency of its customers in its continuous endeavor to enhance and increase value for shareholders. It also reflects the commitment of ADNOC Drilling. for drilling" by reducing operating costs and contributing to enabling "ADNOC" to achieve the goal of increasing its production capacity of oil and gas."

He added: "This historic achievement confirms the dedication of ADNOC Drilling's cadres and their combined efforts and teamwork to contribute to consolidating the company's position and role as a responsible provider of drilling services, and its success in making the most of advanced drilling technologies, including extended drilling and horizontal and directional drilling."

Umm al-Anbar is one of the four artificial islands of the Upper Zakum field that are used as a hub for offshore drilling and operations.

For his part, ADNOC Offshore CEO Ahmed Saqr Al-Suwaidi said: “Based on its leadership in using artificial islands in an innovative way, and its extensive experience in drilling operations worldwide, ADNOC continues its efforts to drive growth and development, enhance value and reduce the environmental impact of its operations. By working with our strategic international partners, we will continue our efforts to expand our engineering capabilities and capabilities for the benefit of the UAE and our partners and customers around the world.”

It is noteworthy that "ADNOC Marine" has developed methods of working on artificial islands, which have an important value in terms of cost efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of operations compared to traditional methods that require a lot of marine equipment and infrastructure.
