This bad news for the US economy also affects us.

The Bank of Korea has said that it will adjust the rate of interest rate increase while monitoring the US situation.

This will inevitably take a bigger hit on the young people who are just coming out of society, because those who borrow money from the bank to pay rent or living expenses will have to bear the interest burden several times higher.

Reporter Jo Yoon-ha listened to the stories of young people.

Mr. A, a freshman in society, bought a new house last week.

The 100 million won she lacked in her deposit was filled with loans, but worries are growing.

This is because of the news that the base rate could rise by up to 1 percentage point more than now in this month and next month combined.

[Mr. A / Newcomer: Actually, the reason for renting is because it is cheaper than the monthly rent.

After rising like this, I was worried that I would eventually catch up with the monthly rent.

If I'm going to do this, I'm starting to wonder why I should buy monthly or cheonsei from the beginning.]

Mr. B, a third-year office worker who is looking for a jeonse loan, also became deeply concerned.

[Mr. B / 3rd year employee: More than half of my monthly salary is in a situation where I have to go to a place excluding living expenses.

I think I was frustrated with this situation where I had to pay this amount every month to get a jeonse loan.]

Seven out of eight families in the metropolitan area under the age of 34 live on monthly rent or cheonsei without a house.

In addition, most of this housing cost is covered by debt, to the extent that 2030 received 60% of the Jeonse loan.

In such a situation, if interest rates rise, the interest on loans for Jeonse will increase, and the monthly rent will inevitably follow the flow of the savings bank deposit interest rate exceeding 5% per annum.

[Seong Tae-yoon/Professor of Economics at Yonsei University: In the case of Jeonse, there is pressure from rising interest rates, so there is a part that can increase the monthly rent price, especially (price) pressure on the monthly rent side.]

Jeonse and monthly rent are heavy, Because my home is farther away, there are many young people who complain of a sense of disappointment.

[Mr. B / 3rd year employee: Even in the current downturn, there are not many houses I can buy, and even getting a loan is burdensome, and I keep thinking, 'When will I be able to buy my own house?' I think.]

As the rate of interest rate hike shows no sign of slowing down for the time being, the concerns of the 2030 generation are expected to continue to grow.
