The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said it would have a limited impact on the domestic industry in response to the U.S. announcement of high-strength export controls on Chinese semiconductor manufacturing companies.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said that the two countries have conducted close consultations through various channels, including export control authorities and diplomatic channels.

He explained that this export control had prior information sharing from the US side, and we tried to fully convey and reflect our position, and in this process, we also communicated closely with our industry.

Earlier, the U.S. Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security published in the Official Gazette a measure to strengthen export controls on semiconductors and semiconductor production equipment to China on the 7th local time.

In the case of semiconductors, high-tech computing chips with specific specifications and all products that are ultimately used in supercomputers, 28 semiconductors in China listed as traders of concern in the United States, and all products exported to supercomputer-related companies are subject to the 'Presumption of Rejection' principle. Chances of permission from the authorities are small.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy predicted that there would be no short-term impact as there was no domestic production of advanced computing chips subject to export restrictions.

Exports to 28 concerned traders also explained that the impact would not be significant as the controls were limited.

Although it has become impossible to export semiconductor equipment for logic chips using FinFET technology, 18nm or less DRAM, and 128-layer or higher NAND flash to China without permission, multinational companies in China, like Korean companies, cannot obtain export licenses through case-by-case examination. there is.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy analyzed that SK Wuxi Plant and Samsung's Xi'an Plant, which are operating in China, are classified as subject to review by case, unlike Chinese companies, so there will be no significant disruption to equipment supply.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy explained that a separate and exceptional permit procedure was introduced in consideration of the importance of Korean semiconductor factories in China to the global semiconductor supply chain.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy has decided to ensure a stable supply of necessary equipment so that there is no disruption to production. To review issues raised during the implementation of this measure, the Korea-U.S. supply chain between the Ministry of Industry and the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Export Control Working Group under Industry Dialogue are used as a regular consultation channel. He said he would do it.

In order to minimize the impact of this measure on our industry, the government plans to actively participate in the US Department of Commerce briefing session and the 60-day opinion gathering process to further express the opinions of the industry and to actively support the authoritative interpretation of related regulations.
